FAQs

I'm ready to buy a postage meter. How much is it going to cost?
Well first of all, you can't buy a postage meter. Because postage is treated kind of like currency, a postage meter is in some ways a machine for printing money. Government regulations strictly control who can own and operate them - so you'll be leasing your postage meter from one of a few authorized providers.

Second, most small businesses can expect to pay between $20 and $50 per month for a basic machine, plus the cost of the postage. Read more on our Postage Meters Pricing page.

Where can I get a postage meter?
There are only four authorized manufacturers of postage meters in the US. They are:

FP Mailing Solutions

Addison, IL 60101-5629
800-341-6052

Neopost

Milford, CT 06461

However, in most cases you'll lease a postage meter from a local dealer. We can help you find local postage meter dealers who will work with you to come up with the best mailing solution for your business.

What kind of mail can I send with a postage meter?
Basically, everything except periodicals. You can send first class mail, priority mail, express mail, packages, and international mail. You can use a postage meter for bulk mail, but you will need to get a bulk permit from the post office.

The size of the pieces you mail will affect your choices: some meters can handle only thinner envelopes, while others can accommodate pieces up to 3/4" thick. Most meters will print postage on tapes for affixing to packages, but some require you to feed pieces of tape through one by one, while others print off a roll.
